My husband, Tim, and I have been married for one and a half years. We feel completely blessed to be having our first child. Unfortunately, other events that occurred during this time made our first trimester a bit more difficult.

The day before Halloween we had a water pipe break in our upstairs bathroom while we weren’t home. By the time my husband and I got home to shut off the water going into our house, it was too late.

The break in our upstairs bathroom flooded our complete main floor and our basement, caving in our celings in our kitchen, living room and finished basement, plus ruining are new floors, furniture, computer, personal items, etc.

Coming home to water pouring through our house was the worst feeling. Your home - your safe place - was no longer available to you.

The rest of October and all the way to mid-January, we were spending most evenings in our basement (with no ceiling) or at my in-laws while the servicemen were gutting and re-building our house. This was our first Christmas that we couldn’t decorate, have a tree or even celebrate it at home.

My husband proposed to me underneath the Christmas tree three years ago, so this holiday means a lot to the both of us. But we did have one great reason to celebrate, and it was great to be able to tell family and friends on Christmas that we were expecting!

January 14th was the first day we were allowed back home. They had to refinish our wood floors, so they moved everything on the main floor out of the house, and since we couldn’t walk on it, that meant we were out too. Plus, the polyurethane wouldn’t have been good for the baby.

But we are home, and this feels wonderful. We just have one more cleaning crew coming in to finish up the basement, and we can finally have our house back to ourselves so we can keep our focus on the soon-to-be baby.

I know it sounds weird, but I feel that this lil’ munchkin inside of me helped me cope through all of this. I read that stress isn’t good for a growing baby, so I did my best to keep positive and healthy throughout this experience.

All in all, I just came to the realization that this was a temporary situation and that the bigger picture was going to be a lifetime of happiness with my soon-to-be family of 3.

On what winning the Baby Shower gift package would mean to her…

It would mean a tremendous deal to our family (and finally some much needed luck back on our side). The gift package alone would be a blessing for our precious little one, especially starting from scratch in our home and still working on getting caught up with our finances. These items would help out us tremendously.

Not only the gifts, but just the thought that we would receive these items because moms and new moms just like me voted for us to win these amazing gifts… we would forever be thankful and full of gratitude.
