My sister, Katie, is due on July 11 with her fourth child. Her boys are 5 1/2 and 4, and her daughter is 2, so this will either even things up or tip the scales further for the boys.

There are many reasons I know she deserves this. She is my baby sister by almost seven years, and sometimes it’s hard for me to think of her as a grown-up, even after all this time. I grew up wanting to take care of her, and it gets harder for me to do that now that I have kids, too, and we don’t live as close to each other as we used to.

Being able to make this happen for her would mean so much to me. She would be so excited and happy and I get all teary thinking of how much fun she would have with all the fabulous prizes you’re giving away. I can’t afford to buy her all that, but I want so much for her to have it.

Also, she needs a prize for the disgusting sickness she endures with every single pregnancy!

She remains cheerful almost all the time, and just says, “Yeah, I threw up 13 times today!” while she’s doing laundry and driving her kids to art class. Not to mention the bleeding gums, nausea, heartburn, grumpiness, and cramping.

If I got sick as she does, I think I would only have one child. She is so dedicated and positive all the time! That kind of attitude needs to be rewarded!

Finally, this is her fourth baby. This is the point where some people say “Another one? Really?”

The fourth baby in six years is just as wanted, just as loved, and just as worthy of fancy, silky, sweet-smelling things as her first one.

Well-meaning people will assume that she already has every possible baby item and doesn’t need anything, or worse, that she shouldn’t have new things.

Many of the awesome items in this shower weren’t even available six years ago when her first was born, and she couldn’t afford them then anyway. How fun to be able to get pampered at a time when you’re only going to be getting “practical” gifts.

Besides, all the hand-me-down clothes are wearing out. The boy stuff has been through her two boys plus mine, and the girl clothes have been through hers and mine as well. New baby needs new stuff. New mama needs new stuff!

On what winning the Baby Shower gift package would mean to her (in Katie’s own words)…

Winning this package would mean that this baby gets to use SOMETHING that has not already been used by at least three other children. We have a lot of hand-me-downs and try to save as much as we can from the previous children, and I would love for this baby to have a few things to call its own. A lot of the things are getting pretty tired and fresh items would be really exciting!

It would also mean that I could bless someone else by passing on our used things that are still in reasonable shape! It would also mean I could get some of the new baby items that were not around 6 years ago and that I would be able to have some of the things that I have always wanted but never been able to have!
